Circular

Mountains of grey and green waste in the green countryside. A shortage of raw materials. Plastic soup in the oceans. You only need to see these images once for them to remain engraved on your mind forever, and it is particularly unfortunate because we know that there is no need for waste to be treated like this. We are all determined to do something about this.

If we ask you what your ideal scenario would be, do you know what you would say? Do you see before you a world where you live and work in a pleasant setting, without harming the environment? Here at Renewi we call this the circular economy. It is a flourishing economy in which we prevent, reuse and recycle waste, so that our existing raw materials do not run out. And so that carbon emissions are kept to a minimum. This is how we can work together to protect the environment and to prevent the earth’s natural resources being depleted.

Caring for the environment is in our DNA. As a leading environmental company, we make an important contribution to that environment. With innovation and entrepreneurship, we take an ecologically responsible and sustainable approach to processing waste and managing waste.

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is therefore nothing new for Renewi, we've been engaged in it for years. We consider that successful entrepreneurship with a respect for society leads to better results for our own organisation, our customers and - a matter of no little importance - society as a whole.

Renewi is making it possible to create a better world thanks to its waste collection and recycling activities and by supplying secondary raw materials. We are making a tangible contribution to resolving the global issue of raw materials shortage and to achieving climate targets, and we represent a connecting link in a circular economy in which we waste no more.

The transition to a circular economy requires us to develop new ways of working so that scarce materials remain in the value chain for as long as possible. In this context we see materials as a ‘temporary storage place for raw materials’, delivering added value as long as they are used in an economically and environmentally responsible manner. This requires confidence and trust and it calls for us to enter into long-term partnerships through which sustainability and circularity can be taken to a higher level.

Creating value from waste really is a wonderful task, and here at Renewi we help more than a hundred thousand customers and some two million households to do just that. We prevent waste at source and deliver innovative solutions for collecting residuals efficiently and then reusing them or recycling them into new raw materials. In this way we are building a circular future, which is essential if we are to maintain prosperity and ensure our world continues to be a pleasant place for future generations to live.

‘Cooperation’ is the key word in a circular world. As a waste collection and recycling company, we understand better than anyone else what happens to waste at the end of a cycle and the beginning of a new cycle, since we produce the resources for these processes. This is where we see our future, working together with our partners to develop innovative concepts which go well beyond the efficient and sustainable collection of waste streams. For example, we plan to enter into long-term partnerships to create shared innovations relating to reuse, specific refurbishment programmes and other usage models. If you are interested in finding out exactly how we approach this, take a look at the extensive list of partners with whom we work together.

Once waste is in our company's hands, it becomes the raw material of the future. A second life is in prospect thanks to our sophisticated method of operation, separating and processing waste as effectively as possible.

All companies within Renewi's remit take responsibility for this optimum waste processing. They have extensive facilities and installations at their disposal for sorting and processing waste as efficiently as possible. Because we can make such a large share of all waste materials fit for reuse, we tend more and more to call them not waste, but raw materials. Thanks to our processes, these raw materials are well suited to the manufacture of new, high-quality products. As a result, they make an important contribution to using raw materials responsibly, reducing CO2 emissions and cutting down the size of the waste mountain. That's the circular economy 2019.

Our customers are increasingly seeking our advice on the circular principles and approach. We actively think along with them about how they can design products so that they can be disassembled easily in a subsequent phase, about how used materials can be used again in new products, whether we are able to supply recyclates for them to use in their products, and how they can engage in circular procurement.

We would also like to inspire and motivate you to do more with the value from waste. As an authority on waste management and recycling, we also see this as our responsibility: improving performance every day, in conjunction with partners like you! If you are interested in making a difference together with us and helping to create a world in which we waste no more, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
